That somewhat surprising finding was one of many nuggets mined from wide-ranging personal interviews con- ducted with 86 home remodeling con- tractors from across the country. The results of the survey provide helpful market insight for professional painters who may work with or act as a subcon- tractor for the remodeler. A DURABILITY IS KEY According to the survey, both the remodeling contractor and homeowner are involved in deciding whether to use paint, tile or another material on bath- room or kitchen walls – areas where most remodeling is done. In making that decision, appearance is the single most important criterion, but durabili- ty is important also. Among paint performance prop- erties, durability is viewed as most important, with color-matching, touch- up and stain-resistance also mentioned. VIEWS ON PAINT Home remodeling contractors have a very favorable view of paint and use it on the vast majority of their projects.
