The Cenacle Sisters Retreat Center and Convent has earned LEED Gold certification under the USGBC's LEED for New Construction (LEED-NC) program. Vertegy teamed up with planning, design and construction firm Hoffman, LLC out of Appleton, Wis., to construct the facility. The pair previously worked to- gether on the Madison, Wis.-based Holy Wisdom Mon- astery, which in 2010 was dubbed as one of the highest- rated LEED-NCv2.2 Platinum buildings. The new 45,920 s/f, two-level convent and retreat building sits on the former retreat house site. The proj- ect team worked diligently to limit site disturbance, and they were able to restore 50% of the total site to its natu- ral state with native/adapted plantings. More than 95% of the construction and demolition waste was diverted from the landfill through the use of recycling centers, reuse and salvage. Hidrock Realty achieves Energy Star label throughout commercial portfolio NEW YORK, NY Hidrock Realty has achieved the En- ergy Star label throughout its commercial portfolio as part of an ongoing effort to achieve LEED certifica- tion. Starting in April 2011, Hidrock began working with CodeGreen to establish Energy Star benchmarks, evaluating each building's energy consumption and comparing it to similar buildings. CodeGreen and Con Edison then established steps for Hidrock to improve energy efficiency, such as updating heating and plant operation systems, converting to natural gas, and im- plementing LED lighting and daylight sensors to re- duce electricity usage. Hidrock also installed energy- efficient HVAC units and highly efficient windows in every tenant space. •for full story visit nyrej.com•
