USC ELAINE AND KENNETH LEVENTHAL SCHOOL OF ACCOUNTING UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Leventhalschoolnews SPECIAL EDITION / WINTER 2011 Dean Randy Beatty: His Impact and Service to USC Leventhal By Robert Bradford (with Eunice Joshua Clarke) As Randy Beatty reflects on his 10-year tenure as dean of the USC Leventhal School of Accounting, it is easy for him to point to some of the big picture accomplishments: Undergraduate enrollment increased from 300 to 600 students; funds for scholarships more than tripled (jumping from $300,000 when he first came to USC Leventhal to more than $1.15 million today) and the school is consistently ranked among the Top 10 accounting programs in the country by a range of sources - from US News &World Report to Public Accounting Report. After a productive stretch as dean, Beatty is returning to full-time teaching and research at USC Leventhal. Although he is an accounting professor and clearly interested in numbers, Beatty is, at heart, a storyteller. When Beatty speaks of his experiences at Leventhal, it is the relationships with students and alumni he remembers most.
